Hammond’s border with Wolf Lake means many homes face extra ground moisture throughout the year. Damp soil here, especially in ZIP code 46320, allows water to collect under your house. Vented crawl spaces let humid outdoor air mix with ground dampness, creeping into joists, insulation, and your floors above. This moisture doesn’t stay hidden; it brings musty odors, softens floorboards, and provides an opening for insects. If you notice humidity or water under your home, a lasting solution like crawl space waterproofing keeps your air healthier and your structure safer.
We help Hammond homeowners in every neighborhood, from lakefront blocks to the busy downtown core. Crawl space moisture varies from yard to yard depending on soil and how close you are to Wolf Lake.
Near Wolf Lake in 46320, crawl spaces often have soggy soil and standing water. Encapsulation with a vapor barrier keeps ground dampness down and helps stop mold growth below the house.
Older homes in South Hammond sometimes suffer from sagging floors caused by persistent crawl space humidity. Reinforcing joists and installing a dehumidifier keeps moisture down and floors firm.
Downtown’s dense development means crawlspaces here can trap more moisture from rain runoff and poor grading. Vapor barriers, paired with improved drainage, help prevent musty air underfoot.
The east side, farther from the lake, is prone to high humidity each summer. A sealed crawl space and moisture control system protect these homes from rot, odors, and high energy bills.

Jim Glick came and explained everything very well. What the company covers and how their system works. He understood what I was looking for and offered me just that.Posted on Google Melanie PageTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. David came out and spent 90 minutes being one of the best salesmen I've ever encountered in real life. He FIRST tells you which color on the test means mold before he tests for mold. It's the bad color. He FIRST tells you which number is acceptable for wall moisture before he places the device on the wall and gets the measurement. It's a bad measurement. He tells you the things floating in the flashlight beam is also mold, though I could have sworn those were known as dust motes. He tells you how water falls into the hole that was dug to create your home and everything is moving, just like when you stand on the beach and the water washes in and you feel yourself slowly sinking. You know what it's like to stand on a beach. He tells you with their special machine, you'll never have to dust again. He tells you have a really nice house and you've taken good care of it, praising your home and efforts, but if you trust EverDry, they can make everything great, permanently, so you don't feel like you're living in a dump. He takes photos and prints them from the trunk of his Cadillac. He measures the square footage and then pulls out a pre-made sheet and tells you the total cost to do all the things: $28,000. You don't even have water in your basement; you just want to add longevity to the current foundation. You feel like nothing about the offer is tailor made to your home because there is no itemized estimate. He lets you know that if you want financing, it's about 10% to 11% interest that compounds daily. You need to put $500 down. Your house is so tempting, he says, because he feels that if he can squeeze you in between other jobs when the crew is waiting around, they'll reduce the price. However, you have to agree that you will only get 24-48 hours' notice. You tell him you work from home and can't have noise while you're working. He continues to say you only get 24-48 hours' if you want the special deal, so you feel like he doesn't care and isn't listening. You say you need time to talk to your bank about financing, and he emphasizes that financing is financing, that you'll have to pay off the loan faster through your bank and that you should sign with him today. You tell him you're going to take a week to think about it. Uninvited, he says he'll stop by in two days. Later, you get a call from EverDry asking how David was. You are evasive and say that he said everything clearly, because he did. He was very clearly a salesman who wanted to close on a $28,000 contract after a 90-minute spiel. But we're not done yet. Two weeks later, you receive communication from EverDry asking you to confirm an appointment to go over pricing options at your home. You do not confirm the appointment, as you never made an appointment. EverDry had more invited themselves to your home. So, if that's what you're looking for as a homeowner, 5/5 stars, no notes.Posted on Google Emmanuel MelecioTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our 20-point crawl space review leaves nothing unchecked—foundation, joists, water sources, and more. You’ll get a written estimate with no obligation to move forward.
Yes, homes near Wolf Lake often experience higher moisture in their crawl spaces year-round. That’s partly because the water table is naturally higher, and humid air off the lake gets pulled into vented crawl spaces. Over time, this leads to damp soil, odors, and possible wood rot. Sealing up the crawl space with proper waterproofing tackles both sources at once.
Encapsulation cost depends on the crawlspace’s size, condition, and what has to be fixed first. Most Hammond jobs take one or two days. A typical project falls somewhere between a few thousand dollars and the low teens, but each estimate is customized. EverDry’s inspection is completely free, so you’ll know what’s needed before you start.
Absolutely. Many South Hammond houses built in the mid-century era have bare dirt crawlspaces. Encapsulation (vapor barrier, drainage) upgrades the space and keeps your floors above much drier. We work in homes of every age—from brand new to 1920s bungalows—with clean, reversible methods that protect your foundation and air quality long-term.
That musty smell rising up means moisture and likely mold are already present below the floor. In Hammond’s damp environment, issues can escalate quickly—wood rot, soft floors, or even pest infestations. Early crawl space repair and moisture control stop small problems before they turn costly.
A dehumidifier helps, but without a vapor barrier and proper crawl space sealing, ground water and outside air still keep things damp. Hammond homes especially need real moisture control to prevent wood rot and energy loss. Full encapsulation gives much more reliable protection and healthier air upstairs.
